Metquarter Liverpool is a 160,000sq ft mixed retail and leisure complex in Whitechapel, central Liverpool. The building itself is the carefully-refurbished Liverpool General Post Office, originally built in the form of a French Chateau and was extensively damaged in the May blitz of Liverpool by the Luftwaffe in 1941.
The retail centre is home to a number of premium clothes brand shops and is known as the Bond Street of Liverpool. Everyman Cinemas have taken a large space on the first and second floors. The addition of the Everyman Cinema and the refurbishment of the interior retail space meant that there were large areas which had to be Fire Rated. Extensive glazing was required in order to keep clear views through the space, allow light to penetrate and also to conform with the cinema’s strong branding.
AEL’s MB78EI was chosen to allow large areas of clear EI60 glazing with butt-jointed, mullion-free glazing along with MB78EI single and double swing doors to match.
