Project Nexus, now known as Leeds University Innovation and Enterprise Centre is a mixed-use 6-storey space where businesses and other external organisations looking to innovate and grow can work in conjunction with the University to access the University’s capabilities and talent.
The centre provides flexible office, laboratory, seminar and lecture theatre space. The ground floor features a large central atrium area for exhibitions along with a cafe, a large lecture theatre and a number of flexible seminar suites for conference facilities.
The large central atrium area meant that there was a requirement for extensive areas of Fire-Rated glazing to the corridors and landings, in EI30 and EI60 classifications. There was also a requirement for an enhanced acoustic specification and the door hardware needed to be incorporated into the University-wide access control system which utilises a digital locking access control system.
AEL’s RP FR70 system was able to incorporate the University’s digital locking handlesets and gives a constant sightline across both EI30 and EI60 rated doors and screens.
